Out of the 54 hospitals located within the Phoenix metropolitan area (including Glendale, Mesa and Scottsdale.), 13 facilities met the U.S. News & World Report's criteria to be honored as the top-ranking health-care institutions of 2012–13. Hospitals were evaluated based in areas, such as specialties, death rates, procedure volume, ratio of nurses and patients along with their reputation.

— Arrowhead Hospital
Since opening its doors in October 1988, Arrowhead Hospital in Glendale (www.abrazohealth.com/facilities/arrowhead/home.aspx) has grown from an 84-bed facility to a 217-bed, nationally recognized, full-service acute care hospital. More than a million people have been treated at Arrowhead since it opened. More than 34,000 babies have been born here and the staff in the emergency department has treated almost half a million patients. They proudly combine state-of-the-art medical equipment and technology with experienced, dedicated staff to deliver the highest quality patient care. — Banner Health System
One of the largest nonprofit hospital systems in the country, Banner Health supports 23 acute-care hospitals and health care facilities that employ more than 36,000 employees. Offering physician services, hospice care and home care, Banner Health research is recognized internationally. Operating in seven states, Banner Health is based in Phoenix. Thomson Reuters rated Banner in the Top 5 Large Health Systems in 2012. It also is rates as one of the Top 10 Integrated Health Networks, and 21 of its hospitals are at the highest level of integrating an electronic record system. The system also offers a 55-bed simulation medical center—the largest of its kind—to enhance health care provider training. Banner Health System provides more than $110 million a year in charity care and contributes $176 million in public programs, Medicaid and other indigent care programs, benefitting the community at around $381 million dollars annually.

Banner Baywood Medical Center opened in 1984 in Mesa, Arizona, and provides complete acute care services in a 342-bed hospital. The hospital serves the growing East Valley communities of Mesa, Gilbert, Apache Junction, Queen Creek, Fountain Hills and areas of northeastern Pinal County. The 50,000-square-foot Emergency Department treats a variety of ailments and offers advanced treatment areas, 58 exam rooms and medical imaging technology. In summer 2007, Banner Baywood Medical Center added the John J. Rhodes Rehabilitation Center to help patients with conditions, such as amputations, multiple sclerosis, stroke and other illnesses and/or injuries enhance their quality of life.
